Stirring The Sauce, Vol. 1
In a new off-shoot from the Central Sauce gang, Jashima and Miki kick-off "Stirring The Sauce" with a deeper look into last month's Ice Cube story all about his "Contract With Black America", using two articles and the writers of said articles to help them contextualise and get past the headline.
Welcome to “Stirring the Sauce,” an ISOS spin-off by the Central Sauce squad. Hosts Jashima Wadehra and Miki Hellerbach connect with writers to discuss sensational or timely topics, the intention of their piece and their reader’s reactions. Covering critiques, commentary and the implications of “headline culture,” Jashima and Miki break down the ingredients of the topic, talk to the journalists about their take and then share a short reflection.
On the first edition, the hosts spoke with Elijah Watson from Okayplayer about his piece “What Is The Role of the Wealthy Male Hip Hop Pundit?” to discuss how he views Cube’s moves as a part of a larger pattern. Next, they spoke with Scott Woods from LEVEL Magazine on Medium about his piece “Ice Cube Isn’t Winning At Chess-He’s Losing At Poker” where he discusses Cube’s gameplay and his supporters' views of it. The issues each piece analyzed broadened our own understanding of what took place in Ice Cube’s contract with Black America and the Platinum Plan. Take a listen.
